A Member of the firm in both the Tax and Forensic Accounting Groups, Bob Hersh works with a wide variety of clients. As a leader in the Tax Group, he represents the firm’s individual and corporate clients on federal and state tax issues and advises them on tax and financial planning strategies. Bob utilizes his 36 years of tax experience to focus his creative advice on the specific goals and circumstances of each of his clients. Projects have included representing clients in federal and state tax audits, documenting changes of state residency to minimize taxes, conducting pre-audits of sales and use tax liabilities to identify areas of potential exposure and overpayment, and coordinating companies' and owners' year-end tax planning strategies.
Bob is an attorney and is certified both as a fraud examiner and in financial forensics. As a member of the firm’s Forensic Accounting team, he specializes in resolving complex and sensitive federal and state tax investigations of businesses and individuals. Other engagements have included FDIC and RTC investigations.
Prior to joining Watkins Meegan in 1985, Bob worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 12 years. His assignments with the IRS included conducting tax audits of businesses, individuals and trusts, applying indirect methods of determining unreported income, investigating abusive tax shelters and testifying as an expert witness in tax cases. His experience with the IRS has proven invaluable in representing clients in various tax matters before federal, state and local agencies
