Jim Kanuch is a Director in the firm’s Not-For-Profit Group. He has more than 20 years of experience in auditing, accounting, tax and consulting engagements with expertise in various industries, including not-for-profit organizations, for-profit subsidiaries and related trusts. Jim’s experience includes planning engagements, designing internal control policies and procedures, supervising staff and working with his clients’ management teams on complex accounting and auditing issues.

 

In addition, he has extensive experience in determining the proper presentation of and accounting for investments in conformity with Statement of Financial Accounting Standards (SFAS) No. 124, Accounting for Certain Investments Held by Not-for-Profit Organizations, as well as the presentation and accounting for net assets in conformity with SFAS No. 117, Financial Statements of Not-for-Profit Organizations, and FASB Staff Position No. FAS 117-1.

 

Prior to joining Watkins Meegan , Jim was responsible for overseeing all aspects of not-for-profit audit, tax and consulting work for a wide variety of clients in the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area, with budgets ranging in size from $200,000 to more than $300 million.

 

Education, Memberships, & Recognition

Jim graduated from Michigan State University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Greater Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants. He has also served on the American Society of Association Executives Finance and Administration Section's Financial Issues Committee.  Jim currently serves as the Audit Committee Chairman on the Board of Directors for Global Impact, a 501(c)(3) organization that, among other programs, is responsible for running the Combined Federal Campaign for the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area.
