Mike Micholas has more than 25 years of auditing, accounting, tax and consulting experience, with specific expertise in auditing and accounting for not-for-profit organizations and construction contractors. His responsibilities at Watkins Meegan have included directing audit and management consulting engagements, reviewing internal control structures, overseeing audit and financial statement processes, and performing information systems requirement analyses and diagnostic reviews. Mike has extensive experience in providing accounting services to companies that outsource their accounting functions, and assisting clients in developing corporate structure, strategic planning, employee benefit plan design and business process planning.
As Managing Member of the firm, Mike’s duties include overseeing daily operations, developing marketing plans and programs, hiring qualified professionals, leading partner meetings and firm retreats, negotiating lease agreements and contracts, developing profitable business opportunities and coordinating staff efforts. He is also in charge of identifying and reviewing potential merger and acquisition candidates, coordinating federal government contracting work, preparing and presenting proposals, and charting the future direction of the firm.
Education, Memberships, & Recognition
Mike is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration majoring in Accounting. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and is active in the AICPA’s major firms group. He also belongs to the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Society of Association Executives and the Board of Governors of the Washington Building Congress. Mike serves as a committee member of the Washington Building Foundation and its Builders’ Ball Finance Committee and on the Raffle Committee for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Ball, most recently as Committee Chair.
